Cyclosporine is frequently prescribed for several inflammatory diseases of the cat. This drug is very effective, but because of its inherent immune suppressive effects, cyclosporine therapy occasionally has been associated with activation of several chronic infectious agents. In this study, Dr. Sonja Zabel and her colleagues are attempting to determine how frequently infectious disease complications occur during cyclosporine therapy. The study provides free infectious disease tests as well as blood levels of cyclosporine to the participating owner and their veterinarians.
