A NEW YEAR….AND NEW CHALLENGES!

As the interim section head while my colleague Dr. Baxter is on sabbatical leave, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Equine Hospital at Colorado State University.

This is certainly an unprecedented time for all of us. We have a new government, and financial concerns that few in this lifetime have experienced. The governor is calling for cutbacks in spending on higher education, and several clients have asked how that will affect us in the equine hospital.

The good news is very little, which means that we can continue to set the bar on the standard of care provided in the Rocky Mountain Region. We have been busy for this time of the year, and with spring right around the corner, we are positioning ourselves to continue with the highest level of care that you have come to expect from us.

Our Equine Field Service is there to provide care and consulting on all health concerns. Our Internal Medicine and Critical Care specialists, along with specialists from the Equine Reproduction Laboratory are here to help with routine and critical health concerns that typically accompany breeding season. Our Equine Lameness and Surgery specialists, along with imaging specialists are here to get to the bottom of those lameness issues and compose a management plan that works for your needs.

In addition, we continue to enrich our relationship with the veterinarians in the surrounding area, and through this team approach provide outstanding medical care and compassion for your horses. These are challenging times, but the faculty, staff and referring veterinarians in this team thrive on providing the best service for your horse.

Best Regards,

Dr. Chris Kawcak
