Krista Dickinson, CVT, Equine Veterinary Specialist

Krista has been a life long horsewoman and as a CHA certified Riding Instructor was the Riding Program Director for Sky High Hope Camp, a camp for kids with cancer for 15 years. Having been nursing at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for 18 years she divided those years between small animal oncology, equine off hours emergency and critical care and her present position as equine medicine nurse specialist in endoscopy and the isolation unit. "Today's horse owners are very savvy, want the best treatments the can afford for their animal and have significant attachments to their horeses for a variety of reasons." Her continuing passion is to provide quality nursing care to her equine patients, emotional support for owners, promote safe client present euthansia and to continue to help break down some of the "large animal" stigmatism's surrounding horses in veterinary medicine regarding pain management, complimentary medicine, equine/owner bond and client present euthansia.

Kim Ellis

CVT Equine Nurse Supervisor

I received my veterinary technician certification from Bel-Rea Institute Animal Technology in 1986. I immediately started in a mixed practice from which I moved on to Littleton Large Animal prior to joining the staff at CSU in 1991. After time spent in small and large animal surgery and later, as sole equine nurse, I was afforded the opportunity to create and supervise a specialized equine nursing unit here in 1996. What drew me to CSU was the fantastic opportunity to bring teaching into the mix of client interaction and the high level of patient care that I already enjoyed and the chance to work with such a wide variety of horses and their behaviors. A goal of mine is the ongoing education of veterinarians to the crucial role equine nurses can play in an equine practice and hoping to some day title them as Equine Nurse Practitioners. Outside of my duties at CSU, I enjoy my wonderful family of three kids and my husband who also holds the spot of best friend. We enjoy the rodeo circuit and showing draft horses together.

"Every horse we treat is special, whether they are champions in the hearts of many or just one."
